Write a high impact CV
CV writing is one of the first things some prospective interim managers
get wrong. You must write your CV in a format which allows the person
reading it to ascertain all relevant information in the
shortest possible time. The CV needs to be loaded with details about
your USP (Unique Selling Point) which enable the consultant to select
your CV above others when they are looking to fill an assignment.
We have outlined below a CV format which should improve your chances of being shortlisted for assignments.
-
Open with a career profile paragraph - remember
interim management providers will search your CV for key words e.g.
General Manager, FMCG. Do not waste your time writing opening
statements that include words such as ambitious, innovative,
successful, etc. Use facts instead. e.g.
-
A General Manager specialising in the use of lean
methodology within the FMCG, B2B and B2C sectors. Core skills include
improving financial performance, developing businesses and managing
Operations and Supply Chains. Experienced in Business Start Up,
Business Recovery & Turnaround for organisations with turnovers
ranging from £1M-£500M.
-
Follow this by listing your interim management
assignments to date in a chronological tabular format detailing
previous client organisations, job titles and dates of each assignment
-
Follow this table by listing in bullet format
the achievements you can substantiate as being directly attributable to
you during each role. Again try and be factual about your
achievements by using tangible evidence
-
Then list your permanent career highlights in chronological order - bullet points only
-
Finally list your professional qualifications,
referee contact details (preferably from your previous assignments),
contact details and hobbies and interests
