What is an Interim Executive?
An interim executive is a person who has successfully
operated at senior management level within an organisation during their
permanent career who has then made the conscious decision to make
interim management their chosen career.
However to be a success as an interim executive is not
guaranteed. Paul Wilson, MD of Aster Interim takes up the story “The
realities of being an interim manager are sometimes a little different
from the romantic notion some people have of becoming interim managers
and operating as their own boss.
For example, it is highly likely that interim executives will
need to work away from home, particularly in the early stages of their
interim career. As a result, it is important that this factor has been
fully considered by all members of the family group upfront as it can
put stresses and strains on relationships that were previously not
present.
Secondly, it can be a lonely profession being away from home, staying in hotel rooms can become monotonous after a while.
Thirdly and perhaps one of the most vital considerations is job
security or should I say the lack of it. Whilst working on one
assignment an interim executive knows that every day worked is
a day closer to completion of the assignment and therefore they need to
constantly market their CV amongst interim providers and their network
of contacts. This is hard work and significant multi-tasking is
required.
There are lots of other issues to consider as well such as financial
security, becoming involved in company politics and sometimes operating
at a level below that of your permanent career".
Have we put you off yet? If not, then give Aster Interim a call because you’re the type of candidate we are looking for!
